After graduating from the University of Illinois at Chicago and then achieving his M.D. at St. Louis University School of Medicine, Dr. Avery served in the United States Army from May 1990 to June 2002. He served his residency in internal medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington before completing a fellowship in hematology-oncology at Washington, D.C.'s Walter Reed Army Medical Center. A frequent lecturer and teacher with residency programs, Dr. Avery is an associate clinical professor of medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a member of the clinical adjunct faculty of Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) as well as a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology. Dr. Avery is also the recipient of an Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and two Meritorious Services Medals. Now practicing at Montgomery Cancer Center Prattville Medical Park, located at 645 McQueen Smith Road North, First Floor - Suite 207 Prattville, AL 36066.
