Annual mammograms and breast screenings Although there's been some controversy on the subject, Montgomery Breast Center still recommends that every woman aged 40 and over have an annual screening mammogram, as well as a clinical breast exam (CBE). The surest way to treat breast cancer is to catch it in its early stages - the earlier, the better - so it's better not to wait every other year when the months in between could make all the difference. While a breast self-exam (BSE) is useful, it's not enough. Mammography and a CBE by a health professional are much more sensitive in detecting small cancers.
